What does the word Quran mean?

The word "Qur'an" means "Holy Book" or "Holy Sign" in Arabic. It contributes to the Muslim nation as a collection or repository of the words of Allah, dating back to the Muslim faith's association with Allah (God) given directly or mythically by the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Qur'an gives recognition and guidance on religion, conduct, and principles in the lives of Muslims and is intended as the primary religious book of Islam. At the same time, the Qur'an provides comprehensive social, moral, religious, and behavioral guidance for all aspects of Muslim life.

The Qur'an is a transliterated text and was originally written in Arabic. This book is composed of 114 chapters (suras) and verses (ayat) of various lengths. The Qur'an is regarded as an incredibly important book in the Muslim community and its original text and words are considered to be very fully preserved so that the words contained in the Qur'an have not been altered or changed.

Muslim institutions can also translate the Qur'an into electronic or other languages, providing a valuable component of additional languages that can be spoken in other languages. However, Muslim institutions generally recommend that translations of the Qur'an may not be able to convey the full meaning of the Arabic original text of the Qur'an, and that translations may help convey emotional meaning.
